Collaboration with Assura
Assura is a Swiss health insurance company that in the last years has been investing a lot effort for their digital transformation. I’m collaborating with them through Ginetta since 2 years on different projects, with main goal of improving the user experience of their public and internal digital tools. The main project I have been working on is the redesign of Assura’s Premium Calculator.
The calculator can be accessed on assura.ch
My role in the collaboration:
UX and UI design for the premium calculator
Digital branding application supervision
Design system creation and maintenance
Supervision of the right application of the design
system by other design teams on new projects
Development support

The project of the Premium Calculator started as an expert review of their old Premium Calculator, and in order to find out more about how the users where interacting with the tool, we first started with research, data analysis, user tests and interviews.
New concept and design principles
The research findings made us be able to elaborate 3 main design principles that guided us in the creation of a new concept and a new design interface for the premium calculator, and so the expert review turned to be in the end a proper redesign.
Effortless
One of the most painful aspect of insurances premium calculators is the amount of information that have to be requested to people in order to build an offer for their health insurance.
Assura products have a quite simple structure compared to other insurances, and taking advantage of this aspect allowed us to create a very simple offer creation process in order to give an effortless experience to the users. The strength of this premium calculator lies on the first step of the process, where users can customise the offer for them or for their family just staying in one single screen.
We could then structure the flow of offer creation in 4 simple steps: product selection page, offer overview page, personal data page and contract data page.
Transparent
The second guiding principle we followed to build the interface is the transparency of always displaying the total price of the offer the user is building, including the details about how the price has been calculated. The aim is eliminating confusion and frustration of not having a constant overview of the created offer, and the price. With this idea we splitted the screen in 2 parts: the left part is where the user takes actions in order to build the offer, and the right part is always displaying the summary and the details of the offer which updates everytime the user choose and change things around. This layout is applied on all the steps of the process.
Modular
Aim of this project was also to build the starting brick of the new design system that will be applied on all Assura digital touchpoints. It was then important to keep in mind how the materials, elements and maybe some components would have been applied to next projects, such as customer portal redesign and website redesign. Aim of this principle was then to keep modularity and consistency on UX | UI and branding level.
